Meet
Christy

Christy is a Durham native, graduate of Riverside High School (’97), Duke University (’01) and North Carolina Central School of Law (’05).  She has twenty years of legal experience in civil law, including family, child abuse and neglect, and general civil law.  She has committed her personal and professional life to serving her hometown and is uniquely qualified to serve on Durham’s District Court Bench.

About

Christy is compassionate, thoughtful, disciplined, and fair – character traits learned by life experience as much as law. She is a proud mom to adopted and biological children and to many animals. She’s honored to be the wife and sister of Air Force veterans, mother to an Army National Guard soldier, daughter of a Navy veteran, and granddaughter of an Army veteran and former Prisoner of War. She is grateful for so many who have shared their stories and wisdom with her.

Experience

Half of the court rooms in Durham District Court require expertise in civil and family law matters, yet Durham’s current bench is mostly attorneys with criminal law backgrounds. Christy has the civil law experience Durham needs, including: family, abuse/neglect, undisciplined/delinquent juveniles, and general civil matters. Christy knows the Rules of Civil Procedure, the Rules of Evidence, trial practice, and court decorum well. Her experience as a litigator has made her a strong negotiator and a meticulous reviewer of legal documents.
